It’s Clerkenwell Design Week this week! The annual celebration of Hub’s homeland as a world-leading design centre has rolled around again, and the weather couldn’t be better! As proud Clerkenwell residents, we thought we’d spend Tuesday morning taking in some of the most innovative and interesting exhibits.

Before we arrived at the Farmiloe Building, the Week’s epicentre, we strolled through the St James’ Church Garden and ran into Draisci Studio’s art installation. People walking through the churchyard are encouraged to explore the structure from the inside. They can sit in the middle, feel the poles, and experience the art!

The first thing we saw at the Farmiloe Building were Anthony Dickens’ Tekio lights. Have you ever since a light like that?

It didn’t take us long to notice the Angle Poise lamps. Especially as there were three human-sized Angle-Poises in the press office! A little birdy told Hub that Tim Burton has Giant Angle-Poise one in his house…

Every time you turn a corner at Clerkenwell Design Festival, you don’t know what to expect. I don’t think anyone at Hub expected to encounter a Jaguar made of clay.

We made a special trip to Altro Flooring, to have a go at their grafitti wall. The wall, featured on a recent series of Dragons Den, allows you to ‘spraypaint’ whatever you want onto a massive white space, by cleverly using infra-red sensors and back-projection.

As well as a warm welcome, you’ll receive something else from Altro during your design week trip…

If you take yourself on a wander around Clerkenwell Design Week 2012, get active on the #cdw2012 tag, we did!
